Around the Valley 8.5.21

By Shannon O'Donnell August 5, 2021

I hope you all are having a great week. We have been gearing up for back to school in our home. The children are anxiously awaiting their new year as a 9th grader and a 5th grader. That saying, "Don't Blink" is so true. You're a teenager one minute and the next you have teenagers. Our family enjoyed a trip to the NRV Fair last week to see the Demolition Derby and go on some rides. On Saturday, we loaded up the children and drove to Pembroke to visit Scoops. They have a lot of different ice cream choices, candy options, and a game room. The best part is we were able to help support a local family.

Check out our UPDATED Back to School Guide. Updated each day with additional information. Harbor of Hope in Christiansburg will be handing out free backpacks with supplies on Saturday, August 7, 2021: 9 AM - 12 PM.

This weekend you won't have to worry about what to do! It is packed with lots of events for the whole family.

  • It is Tax Free Weekend in Virginia, a great time to stock up on back to school supplies, hurricane/emergency preparedness supplies and some appliances without paying sales tax.
  • This is the last weekend for the Sinkland Farm's Sunflower Festival, it is open Thursday - Sunday.
  • Stepping Out in Downtown Blacksburg is this weekend on Friday and Saturday.
  • Blacksburg Books is a new used bookstore in Blacksburg and has their Grand Opening on Friday.
  • Wine & Design has quite a few beautiful art canvas paintings this weekend.
  • Shawsville has their annual Great Road Encampment on Saturday. Starting Monday, August 9, 2021
  • Dance.tech will have their first week of fall classes in the renovated building.

Love, Peace, & Macaroni ~
