When a friend asked me to help create a buzz-worthy treat for her daughter's "bee-day" birthday party, an idea instantly popped in my mind: bee-themed cake pops. Not only do kids enjoy handheld foods, but these adorable bite-sized treats make for an impressive centerpiece as well.
Part I: Bee-Day Cake Pops
Ingredients:
- Cake Pops - pick your favorite cake flavor & icing
- Lollipop Sticks
- Yellow Candy Melts
- White Candy Melts
- Black Icing Writer
- Black Jimmies (Sprinkles)
Directions:
- Make cake pops according to your preferred recipe and chill in the refrigerator.
- Melt the yellow candy melts and dip your cake pops, one-by-one, to cover the entire surface.
- Before the yellow coating has time to harden, stick two white candy melts into the cake pop to form the bees' wings. Add the black jimmies for antennas too!
- Once the wings and antennas have set, add stripes to your bees with the black icing writer.
MACARONI KID TIP: The antennas can be a bit tricky. Use tweezers to help stick them in place. Alternatively, skip this step altogether and draw them on with the black icing writer.
Part II: Garden-Themed Cake Pop Stand
Supplies:
- Foam Block
- Grass or Floral Decorative Paper
- Mod Podge & Paint Brush
- Faux Flowers (optional)
Directions:
Important note: Keep the plastic wrap on the foam block.
- Apply the decorative paper to the block using Mod Podge.
- Once the adhesive is dry, use the cake pop sticks to pierce holes approximately 2 inches apart.
- Adorn with faux flowers to create a buzz-worthy garden scene.
