The Great Road was the main thoroughfare going west to the Frontier. It was traveled by the likes of George Washington, Daniel Boone, Andrew Lewis, William Preston, Adam Harman, and the Ingles and Draper Families.This event honors all who passed through the Valleys of Southwest Virginia in the quest for a better life. This event and the demonstrations are FREE! Demonstrations include 18th Century Reenactors, The West Virginia Company of Roger's Rangers, a detached military hospital and medicine of the time, flintlock muskets, camp cooking, knife and tomahawk throwing, leather work, blacksmithing, and 18th Century clothing, spinning, and weaving.Also, David Serxner of Wooden Ram Cookery is offering a Cooking Workshop for children ages 6-15 on Saturday starting at 9am- limited to 10 children. All the recipes covered in the workshop are authentic 18th century recipes. The cost of the workshop is $10 per child (cash only).
