The 2nd annual YMCA at Virginia Tech Women’s Wellness Fair is coming up this weekend, Sunday March 17 from 2- 4:30pm in The Y Center, 1000 N. Main St., Blacksburg. By hosting this event the YMCA at Virginia Tech hopes to raise awareness about the importance of preventative health, mental health and self-care for women to fulfill one of the core Y principles of ‘healthy living.’
Participating organizations represent a wide range of healthcare professionals, wellness practitioners, and local organizations and clubs including: Community Health Center of the New River Valley, New River Valley Community Services, Carilion Clinic, National Alliance on Mental Illness of the New River Valley, Women's Resource Center of the NRV and more. We are delighted to include special short presentations including Toya Early and Catie Davis from the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad who will share some basic first aid skills and discuss how to prevent emergencies at home, when to call 911, and what information to have ready after calling 911.
The free event provides the public with information on women’s annual screenings and vaccinations, chronic diseases, the importance of maintaining mental health and self-care, and resources available in our area Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to a doctor, if they have questions. There will also be fun activities including singing, massage, Yoga, face painting and clay modeling. There will be interpreters available to help non-English speakers during the event.
