Games to Play When it Snows

January 17, 2024

You've built snowmen, made snow angels and ridden the sled down the hill many, many times. But the snow still stands! What next? Check out these ideas for new games to play in the snow.
Snowball Fight:

  • A classic winter activity. Gather friends or family, create forts, and have a friendly snowball fight.

Snow Golf:

  • Choose a location with a good amount of snow cover. It could be a golf course, open field, or any snowy area. Set up a makeshift "course" by marking designated areas for the starting point (tee), target areas (holes), and a finish line. Use brightly colored or contrasting golf balls so they are easier to spot in the snow. Modify golf clubs by attaching brightly colored ribbons or flags to make them more visible. You can also incorporate snowbanks or drifts which players must navigate around.

Snow Sculptures:

  • Use the snow to create sculptures or interesting shapes. You can get artistic with your designs, also fill a bottle with water and food coloring to make them colorful.

Visit Winterplace Ski Resort:

  • Winterplace Ski Resort is the perfect place for beginners to learn to ski and more advanced skiers and riders to improve their technique or just spend some time having fun with family and friends. Their runs have 100% snowmaking, so even if mother nature can't get it to snow, they can.  For the non-skiers in the group, they have a snow tubing park - no special equipment needed.
  1. Ice Skating:
    • Visit Mountain Lake, Elmwood on Ice or Lancerlot Sports Complex.
  2. Snow Maze:
    • Create a maze in the snow by packing it down in specific patterns. Challenge friends or family to navigate through it.
  3. Snow Tic-Tac-Toe:
    • Use sticks or other materials to create a tic-tac-toe board in the snow. Use different objects as markers.
  4. Winter Scavenger Hunt:
    • Create a list of winter items to find in the snow, such as pine cones, animal tracks, or specific shapes.

Remember to dress warmly and consider safety precautions, especially when engaging in physical activities in the cold. Enjoy the winter fun!
