Hokie BugFest Welcomes Bug Lovers for the 13th year!
October 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will have an early opening at 9-10 a.m. for those with special needs (S.A.F.E. hour).
The whole family is invited to enjoy the 13th annual Hokie BugFest! This FREE event celebrates the science of entomology with activities for all ages!
Located at the Squires Student Center in Blacksburg, Va. Hokie BugFest gives you plenty of room to spread out and places to sit and relax between visiting exciting exhibits.
Join us for a full day of bug-centric games, hands-on activities, and exhibits that even your pickiest teenager will enjoy!
2023 Highlights Include:
FESTIVAL FAVORITES
- Capps Insect Collection – see hundreds of insects from across the globe in this breathtaking exhibit - with several new displays being premiered at the event!
- Virginia Tech’s LIVE BugZoo – meet bird-eating tarantulas, giant cave roaches, blue death-feigning beetles, and more!
- Jr. Entomologist Certificate Program – earn your Junior Entomologist Certificate and win a prize!
- LIVE Reptiles and Wildlife - learn about the importance of insects in the diets of other animals, while you see and even touch/hold animals from JAMout Reptiles, Mill Mountain Zoo, and SWVA Wildlife Center.
- The Bug Library – enjoy a quiet space and endless bug books; hosted by Montgomery-Floyd Regional Libraries.
- 4-H Insect Collection Contest - see the collections that amateur entomologists from across the state (ages 8-18) worked hard to put together! Winners announced at the event (Pre-registration is required to enter this contest).

Hokie BugFest partners with the Virginia Tech Center for Autism Research to provide a S.A.F.E. (supporting autism-friendly environments) pre-opening from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. This is intended for those with mobility or sensory impairments or other special needs..
