Beginning their 16th year serving families in the New River Valley, the Virginia Tech String Project (VTSP) is gearing up for the 2023 fall semester. The program is open to 3rd graders+ who are interested in learning to play violin, cello, viola, or double bass. The beginner class meets on Tuesday and Thursday nights at VT from 5-5:55pm. Students learn from master orchestra teachers and VT music majors. VTSP students perform regularly around the community at venues such as the Moss Arts Center, the Steppin' Out Festival, area farmers markets, and Warm Hearth Retirement community. Students can advance through the program receiving training in group string playing, private lessons, music reading and theory skills, and small chamber music groups. Program tuition is $80 a semester plus the cost of instrument rental from a local music store. Need-based scholarships are available.
