If you grew up in the 1980s, you probably have fond memories of afternoons with your friends at the local skating rink. From limbo contests to relaxing with a slice of pizza, those were carefree hours of wholesome fun!

The Firehouse Skate 'n Play in Vinton is a 21st-century skating rink that will have kids entertained for hours on end and parents enjoying the nostalgia. Plus, they also have some creative opportunities for school field trips!

Activities at the Firehouse Skate 'n Play

Roller skating is a must when you visit the Firehouse Skate 'n Play. Choose from the traditional "quad" skates or inline skates. Check out the Skate Mates to help beginner skaters get their balance and confidence. Firehouse features a state of the art sound and lighting show. Skate under the famous “Color Cloud” and the largest disco mirror ball in the valley!

Need a break from the skating rink? Head over to the Galactic Arena for an all-out laser tag battle. The Firehouse Skate 'n Play has the area's longest indoor LED glow area, with room for up to 20 players at once.

Kids aged 10 and under will love getting all their energy out by climbing, swinging, and sliding their way around the huge Indoor Playground. Your kid will enjoy hours of activity on the bouncing floors, tubes, slides, swings, tunnels, web mountains, and more.

Fancy some arcade games? The Firehouse Skate 'n Play has that, too! Try your hand at the latest arcade games or enjoy a round of skee ball or basketball hoops. Win tickets to earn prizes at the "Stuff Shop."

All this activity will surely have you famished. Take a break and head over to the cafe for refreshments. There's something for everyone on the menu, from onion ring towers and pizza to cheeseburgers and Dippin' Dots. Remember to check out the combo options and adult beverages, too.

Upcoming Events

Firehouse Skate 'n Play hosts Toddler Saturdays, where your tiny tyke can ride their favorite riding toy around the skate arena and enjoy the playground. The Firehouse crew has a hot list of celebrities and events planned for upcoming Toddler Saturdays, from Halloween parties to a meet-and-greet with celebrities like Bluey and JJ!

Don't think all the excitement is for the little ones! There are fun events for adults, too! Mark your calendar for the upcoming Barbie Pink Out Adult Skate Night – an evening of fun, nostalgia, cash prizes, and more.

There is always something new and fun happening at the Firehouse. Check out the website or Facebook page for upcoming monthly events!

Birthday Parties, Group Events, and School Field Trips

The Firehouse Skate 'n Fun crew knows how to roll out the red carpet for birthday parties. From unlimited activities to bottomless drinks, there are several party packages to choose from that can accommodate up to 50 kids! The Firehouse party crew will be on hand to ensure it's the most memorable birthday party experience.

Why leave all the fun to birthday parties? The Firehouse Read and Roll Incentive Program incentivizes students to keep reading. When a student completes five books, they can earn a free activity! The school that logs the most books can also earn a free year-end school party. So, get in on the "roll and read" action early and log those books!

In addition to motivating kids to read, Firehouse Skate 'n Play is an excellent place for STEM field trips. Showing kids how everyday experiences (like roller skating) requires science, technology, engineering, and math makes learning fun.

The Firehouse crew partners with Roanoke and surrounding area teachers to show kids real-world applications of what they're learning in the classroom – what better way to learn about Newton's Laws of Motion than to test them yourself! Go online to view offered lessons and book a STEM field trip for the upcoming school year!

As you're putting together your family calendar for the fall, remember to add the Firehouse Skate 'n Play to your list of activities. Check their website or Facebook page regularly for upcoming events and discounts you won't want to miss.
