New Exhibit! Sketchtopia at The Science Museum of Western Virginia

By Beth Bell, Publisher Roanoke February 22, 2023

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is excited to for you to explore their new Sketchtopia Exhibit. The exhibit, which is sponsored by Virginia Tech, invites visitors on a journey through "The Air We Breathe."

The exhibit's centerpiece is a glowing hollow cube measuring 8 feet on each side, which contains the amount of air an average adult filters through their lungs each day. Visitors will pass through the cube to discover a series of smaller illuminated cubes representing different elements in the air we breathe, including carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, nitrous oxide, ozone, and microscopic particles.

The experience is rounded off by a floor-to-ceiling projection of a sunny cartoon landscape, along with a control panel where visitors can experiment with air quality simulation by adding their own sources of pollutants. The exhibit will also feature a coloring book station where visitors can draw and create their own components to add to the simulation.

This unique and interactive exhibit provides an educational and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. The Science Museum of Western Virginia is located at 1 Market Square SE, Roanoke, VA 24011, and the ribbon-cutting event is open to the public. Come and experience the impact that the air we breathe has on our health, climate, and quality of life.
