New River Valley Online Teen Connections

August 5, 2021

Teen Connections is back this August with a free, virtual program for middle school students! Teen Connections uses the evidence-based curriculum Get Real, designed to educate youth on anatomy, puberty, healthy relationships, consent and delaying sex (through Social Emotional Skill building). This curriculum not only empowers youth to make positive, healthy choices, Get Real also recognizes parents as the primary sexuality educators and supports them in this role through family activities for each session. Thanks to Planned Parenthood South Atlantic's partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), each student who successfully graduates from the program as a Peer Educator will also receive a $100 stipend in the form of a visa gift card. This program will meet virtual weekly on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 6:30 PM through the end of September, with a required pre-session on Friday, August 13th from 4:30 - 6:30 PM for all participants. A Virtual Parent/Caring Adult Orientation will be on Tuesday, August 10th from 6 - 7 PM for families who'd like more details about the curriculum, its SEL skill-based foundation, and the monetary incentives.
