Around the Valley 6.24.21

By Shannon O'Donnell June 23, 2021

Is it Friday yet? It has been one of those weeks where time feels at a stand still. That always seems to happen when you are looking forward to something coming up.

I decided to have a garden this year. It is my first one as my mother in law normally uses the space, but decided not to this year. I just started small with cucumbers and tomatoes. We purchased seeds and grew them indoors for 2 months. Then we transplanted them to the garden not knowing if they would survive. They survived and they are thriving. The cucumbers are producing and they are a good size. Since I homeschool my children, I try to make everything I can a lesson. They are proud of the progress and enjoying it. We haven't seen a tomato yet, but I cannot wait to have a garden tomato and mayonnaise sandwich. YUM!

Have you attended the Sinkland Farm's Pumpkin Festival in the past? Well this year, we are all in for a treat as Sinkland Farm's hosts its first Sunflower Festival. My family cannot wait to attend.

We have a lot of fun events coming up this week. The Monster Truck Show is at the Motor Mile Speedway. The Seed's Nature Center has reopened 4 days a week. The Lyric is having a free movie day on Fridays this summer.  Be sure to check out our articles Where to Celebrate July 4th in the New River Valley and Recipe Roundup!

Until next week!

Love, peace, and Macaroni~
