Around the Valley 6.17.21

By Shannon O'Donnell June 17, 2021

I hope everyone is having a great week. Little man started his first real job this week working for a local landscaping company. He can only do a few things because he is 14 but he can spread mulch and clean up debris/lawn clippings in the yards. It has been bittersweet, he is growing up too fast but I am excited for him. I remember my first job well. It was for a lady who did catering events in the area. I was very young and thought I had to have a job right then. Looking back it was silly since my parents would have purchased whatever I needed.  But children crave that independence and some of their own money. So far, he is loving it. I think we may have finally found something that will wear him out!

Half-pint started riding horses last month at Meadow Ridge Stables. She had been riding for 3 years at another stable. Recently we made a switch to Meadow Ridge in Christiansburg. Let me just say, if you have been on the fence about riding lessons, this is the place. My daughter fell off a horse about a year and a half ago and has had a fear of doing it again since. She didn't get hurt at all but her anxiety kept telling her the next time would be worse. She refused to jump/canter after the fall.  I have asked her if she would like to stop riding for a bit. She always says, no that she just isn't ready to jump/canter yet. She has blossomed with Meadow Ridge Stables! Corinne McCoy really knows how to instruct an anxious child and we are grateful we came across Meadow Ridge.

We went to an outdoor pool this week for the first time this summer. The kids and I had a blast. We have included a Pools, Splashpads and Water Park Guide on the weekly newsletter. They are all local or can be made into day/overnight trips. The Hokie Kid's Club has returned for the 2021-2022 season. Head over to their website to check out the packages available for your child/children. For just $35 per child, you can get them access to one VT Football game, all regular season VT Women's Basketball and VT Baseball games. A birthday card from the Hokie Bird plus so much more. We also included a few more Father's Day ideas. Head over to the calendar to check out all of our local events coming up.

Love, Peace and Macaroni~
