Walkabout Outfitter was started by a husband and wife team, Kirk and Tina Miller, who love the outdoors and wanted to create a place where everyone from AT Thru-hikers to families alike could find quality apparel and gear for any type of adventure. Kirk, (aka Flying Monkey) a thru-hiker class of ‘99 and Tina, a native of the area and avid horseback rider, decided to quit their day jobs and opened the first Walkabout in April of 2005 in downtown Lexington, VA. They have since grown the company to a total of six locations including Richmond, Harrisonburg, Downtown Roanoke, the Valley View Mall of Roanoke and their largest location of all, Blacksburg.

‘Encourage happiness’ is the company’s mission statement and it’s evident as soon as you walk through the doors.
