The annual gingerbread house contest to benefit the Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley has begun and you're encouraged to enter!
If you are interested in a kit, you can reserve it by emailing HappinessNRV@NestRealty.com. You can pick up your reserved kit from Nest Realty (118 Country Club Dr SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060) on Saturday, November 21st from 10:00am - 11:00am or Monday, November 23rd from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. The $20 donation can be paid by cash or check made out to the Women's Resource Center of the NRV.
Decorating Contest Rules
1. All entries must include the kit purchased at Nest Realty or Kent Jewelers. Additional structures and décor are encouraged, but not required. All pieces of the kit must be used somewhere in the design. In the past, entries have included a Star Wars Storm Trooper, a house based on the movie Up, and the VT football stadium. So go wild with your ideas!
2. Please make sure to put your name/name of the business on the house as well as a title. The title will be used for voting purposes.
3. Important Dates:
- Houses must be delivered to Kent Jewelers at 220 South Main Street, Blacksburg by Nov. 30 through Dec. 2nd during regular business hours.
- Public voting will take place from Dec. 4 through Dec. 18.
- Winners will be announced on December 19, 10:00 a.m. at Kent Square. You must pick-up your houses no later than Monday, January 4, or they will be disposed of.
4. If you add lighting to your design, it must be self-powered because we cannot provide electricity.
5. Houses/structures must be delivered complete and attached to a solid base (plywood, cardboard, whatever we don’t need to return to you). Bases should be no bigger than 2 feet by 2 feet.
6. Main components and décor should be edible, though we will not be feeding anyone with the houses.
7. Creativity is welcomed and encouraged.
8. Spread the word...tell your family and friends to VOTE! Voting is $1.00/each and free for kids under 5. ALL proceeds from the house kits and votes will go directly to the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley.
