Wonder Universe Reopens

Learn About How The Museum is Handling COVID 19 & Plan Your Visit

July 24, 2020

On March 15, 2020, Wonder Universe was sad to make the announcement they were temporarily closed to the public due to COVID-19. However, over the next four months, they worked to continue engagement outside of the museum. They did this through posting educational videos on social media, creating ReMaker kits, inspired by our ReMaker Center, and Summer Camp Boxes that guests can purchase for delivery or pick-up and complete at home.

On July 1, 2020 the museum announced a reopening on July 15, 2020. As our reopening date quickly approached, staff spent many days in the museum cleaning and organizing our space. We also made the decision to add an additional four months to each membership that was active at the time of closing to compensate for the time we were closed. Additionally, to make reopening even more exciting, we added a new exhibit, National Bank of Blacksburg, and a life-size tractor to our Farm to Table exhibit.

Since the reopening, the museum has adjusted cleaning procedures to ensure keeping the museum as safe and clean as possible. This includes a designated cleaning room, where staff and volunteers can remove all items off the floor for cleaning with an electrostatic sprayer when they close at mid-day and in the evenings.

During the hours the museum is open, staff goes behind our guests to sanitize each exhibit. They have modified the number of days and hours they are open and, in an effort, to limit the number of guests in the museum, ask guests to make reservations before visiting, although they are not required. The museum also strongly recommends social distancing and requires masks or face shields for everyone over the age of six. Upon entry to the museum, staff check each guest’s temperature, present them with a series of health questions related to COVID-19, and directs them to a hand washing station.

Even though Wonder Universe is operating a little differently than we once did, the museum remains just as fun as it was four months ago, and they are thankful for everyone’s continuous support! Learn more about Wonder Universe and plan your visit HERE
