Embracing The Cold With A Hygee Lifestyle

By Erin and Sheila Real Estate Team January 28, 2020

Could you use a little more cozy in your life?

If any culture knows how to embrace the cold winter months, it’s the Danish! They practice a way of life called hygge (pronounced hue-guh). The Danes have an amazing way of creating an environment of coziness, intimacy, and comfort. The art of hygge requires minimal effort as it truly is about what brings each individual comfort and happiness. There is a strong emphasis on life’s simple pleasures, think fuzzy socks, hot cocoa with marshmallows, a roaring fire, soft candlelight and your favorite cozy blanket!

One of the hygge lifestyle main concepts in decor is to create a comfortable space that feels calming to you.  A neutral color palette and space free of clutter can be calming and provide the backdrop.  Adding texture through wood, plants and fibers such as pillows, rugs and throws, can add to the interest, and creating welcoming seating areas especially those near-natural lights such as fireplaces and window seats can invite you to slow down and enjoy the season.

Don’t let the bitter cold days of winter make you blue. Instead, surround yourself with everyday comforts that bring you joy. So slow down, settle in with that book you have been wanting to read and just enjoy the moment!
