How To Decide Which Type of Yoga Class is For You

Q & A With In Balance Yoga

October 18, 2018

Have you been considering trying yoga?  With so many types of yoga, it can be intimidating, and we asked In Balance Yoga what we should know about taking a yoga class for a possible experience.  In Balance Yoga recommends calling the studio and discussing your needs and goals to help determine which class is the right fit for you.

What Are The Benefits of Yoga?
Whatever your age or physical condition, yoga can help you vastly improve the quality of your life and health. Yoga helps connect the body, mind and breath, improving our well-being physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

How Do I Choose the Right Class?
In Balance Yoga offers many class options, for all levels - even for beginners!  They have everything from laying in a hammock and listening to a guided meditation to a heated strength building class.  Our Hot Flow–Set class is a beginner-friendly series and a set sequence each class so students know what to expect, the order and can see their improvement each time. If heat is not for you, you might try Yoga Basics, Basic Flow, Flow, Restorative, Therapeutic, Yin-deep stretch, Gentle, Gentle Flow, Chair, Classical, or any of the Pilates, Aerial or Barre classes.  Feel free to call or stop and talk to a staff person about your goals, and they can suggest classes that are a fit for you.

How Do I Register for a Class?
There are 3 ways to register for classes at In Balance Yoga- in person, by phone or online. To register online, visit our New Student page on our website – this page also has Beginner Friendly options listed. Fill out a New Student Waiver form & sign up for class. Or visit the studio and register with us at the desk – we can answer any questions & show you around our space. Or, call (540)961–1030 – we can register you by phone.

Any Class Tips?
Yes,  please arrive 10 – 15 minutes before the scheduled class. This will allow plenty of time to look around, get yourself set up, fill your water bottle, and/or use our locker rooms.

What Should I Bring?
Water, a towel, and a yoga mat if you have one. Your first mat rental is free – no charge. After that, you may rent a mat at the studio for just $3 or we also have mats for purchase.

Should I Eat Before Class?
We suggest you eat at least two hours before class, and wait at least a half hour after class to eat.  Many people find it best to practice yoga on an empty stomach and may feel nauseous or tired if they eat right before practicing yoga.  Drink plenty of water before, during, and after class. Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day before you practice yoga.

What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that will not overheat or overly bind. Anything comfortable that will allow unrestricted movement. Remove your shoes at the door, we recommend bare feet.

Anything else?
Listen to your body! Pay close attention to your body’s innate feedback system. Poses can be modified – just ask your instructor.
