Celebrating its new home in the Pink Floyd Beer & Wine Garden, Across-the-Way Productions and Blue Cow Arts present Floyd Fandango 6 — a boutique, intimate two-night soiree centered around the best of FloydFest — from Friday to Sunday, June 22 to 24, 2018, at the FloydFest Site/Blue Cow Pavilion, located at 894 Rock Castle Gorge Road in Floyd, Va. (Milepost 170.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway). A celebration of beer, cider, wine, food, live music and outdoor adventure, Floyd Fandango 6 delivers an old-school festival vibe for its regional tribe — all at the low price of $30 advance/$35 at the gate, and with all the wild trappings of an intimate FloydFest in June.
“You spoke and we listened!” Kris Hodges, Across-the-Way Productions CEO and FloydFest co-founder, said. “Every year, the Pink Floyd Beer & Wine Garden is the star attraction at the beloved FloydFest Music and Arts Festival held at the end of July. This year’s Floyd Fandango celebrates that vibe and excitement by offering you that same one-of-a-kind experience that has given the Garden its reputation for the go-to place to drink, dance and throw-down in the great outdoors under a canopy of magical flora.”
Tickets are available now at http://atwproductions.com/event/floyd-fandango-6/ and https://floydfandango6.eventbrite.com, and — at $30 advance and $35 at the gate — include festival entry (from 5 p.m. Friday, June 22, through noon on Sunday, June 24), onsite camping in Premium Woodsy, onsite parking, a commemorative tasting pint and three tasting pogs. Admission is free for ages 12 and under. Onsite (unpowered) RV Parking is available for $50, and Farm-to-Table Meal (sponsored by Martin’s Downtown) tickets cost $30.
“All of this takes place in a limited-capacity, intimate atmosphere … Floyd Fandango — don’t you wanna?!” Hodges added.
In addition to beer, cider and wine tastings, the festival features a quality lineup of live music on FloydFest’s Pink Floyd Beer & Wine Garden Stage, featuring Kung Fu, The Broadcast, Erin & the Wildfire, Sol Searchers, FloydFest 17 On-the-Rise Competition-winner South Hill Banks, FloydFest 17 On-the-Rise Competition-runner-up Dharma Bombs, The Floorboards, The Jam and Blue Mule.
• Kung Fu — Proud to be firmly installed in the new-funk movement, Kung Fu is quickly popularizing their unique sonic contribution, blurring the line between intense electro-fusion, and blistering dance arrangements. Making fusion music "cool" again, the band draws on influences such as early Headhunters and Weather Report, and merges those ideas with a contemporary EDM-informed sensibility. Imagine 70's funk-fusion meets a modern dance party.
• The Broadcast — Produced by multi-Grammy-winner Jim Scott, The Broadcast is a soulful blues roots rock band formed in New York City and developed in Asheville, N.C. Fronted by the explosive vocals of Caitlin Krisko, the band’s live shows bring back the spirit of high-energy performances originally made famous by 1970s classic rock bands.
• Erin & the Wildfire — Erin & The Wildfire is a Charlottesville-based band that has been steadily carving out a reputation for themselves in recent years as one of the most captivating live acts to come out of Central Virginia since their formation in 2012. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist and Fincastle-native Erin Lunsford, the band has been making waves throughout Virginia stirring up their unique sonic melting pot of soul, funk and R&B. The group's
striking sound, goofy charm and relentless work ethic has propelled them to some of the Commonwealth's biggest stages.
• Sol Searchers — Sol Searchers seek to create meaning through their music, which traverses the landscape of America’s deep roots through the realms of blues, folk, rock, jazz and jam. The band itself consists of five highly skilled and experienced musicians from the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Virginia — Foster Burton, Mark Nicholson, Jake Dempsey, Ben Hite and Kris Hodges — each with his own unique experiential background.
• South Hill Banks — FloydFest 17 On-the-Rise Competition-winner South Hill Banks has carved a niche for themselves with their jam-infused bluegrass sound. Formed in August 2015 in Richmond, Va., South Hill Banks pulls from a wide range of influences such as classic rock, jam, blues, to traditional bluegrass to keep audiences entertained with a blend of sounds old and new.
• Dharma Bombs — FloydFest 17 On-the-Rise Competition-runner-up Dharma Bombs has been playing in the heart of the Commonwealth since 2014 creating a fresh sound in their beautiful home of Richmond, Va. Bringing together twang and swing, lyric and tempo, Dharma Bombs is a raucous fusion of southern sounds. With influences ranging from bluegrass and Americana to jazz and country blues, their special folk sound has been heard throughout the East Coast at festivals, barrooms, house venues and concert halls.
• The Floorboards — The band marries rock & roll and country roots with the sights and sounds of southern mountain towns. Jake and Rob shake the leaves from the trees. Chris coaxes stringed cries from the hills and hollers. Matt writes and sings the story. Since forming in Roanoke, Va., in 2011, The Floorboards have toured extensively throughout the East
Coast, sharing stages with Dwight Yoakam, Trampled by Turtles, Darryl Scott, Tim O’Brien, Yarn, Los Colognes and more.
• Blue Mule — Celebrating almost two decades together, Blue Mule have worked hard to absorb the lessons of their musical heroes and role models — legends of the contemporary acoustic music scene such as Sam Bush, David Grisman, Tony Rice and Bela Fleck, to name
just a few. In a typical performance, they’re likely to follow a Bill Monroe song with one by the Grateful Dead, or a Steel Driver’s tune into a Count Basie classic.
Akin to FloydFest, the live music pairs with a robust offering of outdoor adventure competitions, such as the Mountain X Cross Bike Race, Innova Disc Golf Tournament and Rundango 5K Trail Race & Relay. New for 2018, Floyd Fandango's Rundango 5K Relay and Innova Disc Golf Tournament are FREE to all attendees. Entry into the Mountain X Cross Bike Race and Rundango 5K Trail Race costs $8 in advance and $12 at the gate, respectively.
Each attendee receives three tasting pogs upon entry — the same amount required to enter Floyd Fandango's Drink Tank, a joyously educational tasting presentation that teaches patrons more about the beer, wine and cider they love. To accompany the wide selection of craft beverages onsite, Floyd Fandango 6 will also feature ample food and drink options, including fare from OXXO Taco, Martin's Downtown, Dogtown Roadhouse, Red Rooster Coffee Roaster, Two Roosters Kettle Corn and more Snacks and camping supplies will be available in FloydFest's Camp Store, onsite. Restroom facilities and primitive showers will be available to all patrons.
