The Lion Guard; Return of the Roar Party & Review

I love the story of The Lion King. I like how well-developed the characters are, each with their own personalities and knowing their place in the Pride Rock community. I like the beautiful animation of the savanna, the playfulness between the animals and everything else that makes this movie a beloved Disney classic. But  most of all, I love the opportunities the stories present for meaningful conversations with my children. Difficult subjects including animal predators and death are made easier to understand if your children are familiar with the cycle of life concept.

Disney sent me a copy of their new movie The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, and I hosted a Lion Guard Party at M.I.N.E. Montessori School where a dozen families joined me to watch the film, create lion themed art and enjoy a snack. Just as with the first two films in the trilogy, The Lion Guard also presents us with multiple opportunities for discussion long after you have enjoyed the film. Like its predecessors, it’s both sweet yet serious and filled with heartwarming songs. You’ll be reunited with favorite Pride Rock characters including Simba, Rafiki, Timon and Pumba. And you’ll meet new characters that clearly articulate how we all have our own gifts. Within the film, Simba’s son Kion is asked to assemble a team of animals to guard the Pride Lands. Rather than just lions, he assembles an unlikely team of heroes, each chosen for a specific skill they posses. We meet strong Beshte the hippo,  fast Fuli the cheetah, fearless Bunga the Honeybadger and Ono the egret who is keen in sight.  The team of friends are able to work together to defend the Pride lands from predators and help maintain balance among the animals.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is available on DVD and comes with a access to watch it on other devices as well as a free talking backpack pull. It's a great film to add to your collection, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!  There is also a Lion Guard television series on Fridays at 9:00 am/8:30C on Disney Junior.  Learn more or purchase your copy of the Lion Guard:Return of the Roar here and watch a trailer here.
