Financial Peace University to be offered in Blacksburg September 2.

By by Nicole Clements August 28, 2014
A little over a year ago, I stumbled onto an advertisement for Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey.  I had only a vague knowledge of the course and the financial guru behind it, but signed up and hoped to learn something useful. Without exaggeration, that was one of the best things my husband and I have done for our family.  It completely changed the way we view and handle our money.  The information is provided via DVD in an entertaining yet very practical and eye opening way. Not only does Dave Ramsey provide you with tools to set a monthly budget and eliminate debt, but also to ensure you are protected with the right insurances, save for retirement, and can give generously to others. These tools are presented as 7 Baby Steps. Being taught how to take control of your finances and seeing the difference it makes, is very empowering.  It really does give you a sense of peace.
Before taking the course, my husband and I would constantly say, "Where does all of our money go?" (And we were not big spenders).  Now that we set a monthly budget and save for all our purchases, we know exactly where our money is going.  It is comforting to be in control of our money instead of feeling controlled by it.  It is also empowering to know that we are saving for the future, both ours and our daughters.  I never thought that saving for college would have been possible.  In addition, we look forward to the day when we reach our goal of being able to generously give to others in our community.  I have always wanted to be one of those people who randomly gives someone $50 or leaves a big tip for excellent service.  Now, one day we will be able to do that!
I wish I could adequately express how much this 9 week course changed our lives.  Please consider joining me this fall.  It is well worth the investment of your time and money!
FPU starts September 2 and will be offered at New Life Christian Fellowship in Blacksburg. It is open to anyone and you can learn more at http://newlifenrv.org/event/finance/
