Halloween KidFest Fun4Free

October 23, 2014
This month marks Floyd’s Jacksonville Center for the Arts longstanding tradition of harvest time and Halloween fun for children of all ages. The public is invited to join the fun October 26 from 1 to 4 PM. This event, first offered as a kid-friendly community service in 2001, is a costume party, do-it-yourself workshop, frightening fun, spirited, spooky gathering for the whole family.
The entire community has been pitching in for this event over the past 13 years, and 2014 is no exception. Volunteers from Radford and Ferrum Universities; private donors and community volunteers; and Jax staff and friends will combine with these (alphabetical) business sponsors to make the 2014 Halloween Kid Fest the best ever: Floyd Country Store, Mickey G’s, Nancy’s Candy, Sinkland Farms, Slaughter’s Supermarket, and Wildwoods General Store & George’s Kitchen.

Organizers have highlighted several new offerings on the 2014 event’s schedule, including The Freaky Photo Booth. The Photo Booth is like a stage set for children to pose with for a special photo opportunity. Photos will be printed and handed out to participants in the decorating workshop, where they can be turned into seasonal cards, fun nameplates, or handmade gifts.

A Costume Parade will also be among the afternoon’s activities, and Kathleen Dawe will guide groups in making small clay figures to take home. Of course, tastey treats, pumpkin decorating, ghoulish garb, fortune-telling, face-painting (by Dede McGrath), and many other supervised activities will be available to all spooky and glittery guests.
