Lucky (rubber) Duck Adoptions Are Open

Race will be held on Saturday August 16th in Bisset Park

RADFORD, VA - This year’s annual Lucky (rubber) Duck Race will be held on Saturday August 16th in Bisset Park during the ‘Saturday in the Park’ Classic Car Show. The event will kick off with a ‘Best Dressed Duck’ contest.  Local businesses may decorate a duck in a fun and festive way that best represents their business.  The ducks will be on display at the Radford Public Library for two weeks prior to the event on Saturday, August 16th. 
A $50 gift card will be awarded to the Facebook winner with the most ‘likes’ and a $50 gift card will be awarded to the ‘people’s choice’ winner on the day of the event.  The 12” ducks are available at the Radford Visitor’s Center for $50 and are due back in their best attire by July 31th so that they can begin their quest for the Best Dressed title.
 
The annual Lucky Duck Race is sponsored by the Radford Noon Rotary and the Radford Visitor’s Center to support the Noon Rotary Scholarship Fund which is awarded annually to a Radford High School student who will be attending Radford University.
 
Ducks for the Lucky Duck Race can be ‘adopted’ for $5 for one duck, $20 for five ducks (a quack pack) or $100 for thirty ducks (a flock of ducks). The ducks will ‘fly’ into the New River on Saturday, August 16th at 6 pm and the ducks will ‘race’ toward the finish line.  Prizes are $500 for the first duck to cross the finish line, $250 for second place, $100 for third place and many other prizes will be awarded. Ducks can be adopted at www.radfordduckrace.webs.com or at the Radford Visitor’s Center (600 Unruh Drive, inside Glencoe Museum) Tues-Sat 10 am -4 pm or Sun 1-4 pm.
 
The Lucky Duck Race will take place during the annual ‘Saturday in the Park’ classic car show that will also be held on August 16th from 4-8 pm in Bisset Park.  The car show is sponsored by the New River Valley Classic Cruisers and will feature classic cars, music, children’s activities and family fun.
