Floyd Livestock and County Fair Expanding

August 25, 2016

The Floyd Livestock and County Fair is set for Saturday, September 17, and will expand to include new events along with old favorites. Hosted at Chantilly Farm on Franklin Pike in Floyd, this year's festivities are expected to draw an increased number of participants.

To kick off County Fair weekend on Friday, September 16, a Bull Riding Show has been planned from 6pm-8pm. Tickets for the evening event will be available at the show for $10 with kids 12 and under being admitted for free.

On Saturday, the venue will be busy with goat, lamb and cattle shows, along with Mutton Bustin', a petting zoo, antique tractors, a variety of games and more. Chantilly Farm's indoor barn facility will host all exhibits for this year's fair. To help in accommodating expected growth, the organizing committees for the fair have grown and planning has been underway for months.

The fair's Exhibits Committee stresses the importance of exhibitors preparing their displays carefully and encourages participation from anyone in the community who may be interested.

“The rules for each type of exhibit are available so that anyone planning to participate will be prepared,” stated Leia Wood, of the exhibit committee. “Each participant must come with their exhibit ready. With the amount of people we are expecting, we will not be able to stop and help people prepare their exhibit the day of entry.” Example of prepared exhibits are photography which is mounted on black foam core or canned products, which must include a ring over the seal. The exhibit rule book can be found online at www.floydvafair.com. Paper copies can be picked up at both the LCF Office located at 108B Locust St. in Floyd or at the Floyd Farmer’s Market at Rebecca’s Pantry. Exhibitors can drop off their displays on Thursday, September 15, from 8am-7pm at Chantilly Farm.
Live music will be featured on the outdoor amphitheater stage beginning at noon and will feature local talent that includes Seph & TK, Blake Conner, Small Town Renegades and more.

For the first time ever, the fair will include a grandstand concert on Saturday evening at 7pm that features country music royalty, Ben & Noel Haggard with The Strangers. Tickets for the Saturday evening concert are priced separately and are available at www.chantillyfarm.com/wp/tickets.

“2015 was a make or break year for the fair,” said Julie Weddle, one of the fair’s organizers. “We relocated the fair to Chantilly Farm and hoped to increase our participation and visitors. What we were able to achieve surprised and overwhelmed us. We more than tripled our attendance from 2014 and we couldn't be more grateful for the ongoing support.”

This year will mark the fair's tenth anniversary. To learn more, visit www.floydvafair.com.
