To my son on Mother's Day,
When I found out I was going to become a mom, I could not have been more thrilled. And when you arrived late that May day you were gorgeous. Almost 10 pounds and sporting fuzzy peach hair so thick it was apparent you had inherited your dad's beautiful hair gene. I remember laying in the hospital bed with you and your father walked in the room talking. You turned your head to see him, recognizing his voice. You've been curious and inquisitive literally from the day you were born!
You made me a mother, filling my heart more than I'd ever thought possible, and giving me the gift of seeing the world from a parent's perspective.
Pampers asked me how motherhood inspires me, and I think it drives me to try and be as a good a mother as you and your sister deserve. I'm constantly in awe of your cleverness and the inventions you create. Your sense of humor and way you see the world a little different from others makes me love that wonderful brain of yours, and so proud that I had something to do with it!
I think back on times when I enjoyed nothing more than to rock you in our chair while the world passed us by as we sang, read and just enjoyed one another. Those are some of my favorite memories. Today you no longer fit on my lap, and I'm more likely to be driving you to an activity than reading you a story, but you still manage to delight me daily.
When you look back on your childhood I hope you remember how loved you were, and are. Thank you for making me a mother. And more importantly, thank you for making me your mother.
