Body Works: A free program for children starting soon

At the Blacksburg Children's Museum

This 12 week program is designed to educate children on how to lead a healthy, enjoyable lifestyle. It rotates between three topics: anatomy, nutrition, and physical activity where kids will learn about the body, healthy food choices and how to be physically active while having fun. It will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:00 pm for 5-8 year olds and Fridays 10:30 -11:30 am for 3-4 year olds at the Blacksburg Children’s Museum and cost is free. It starts Wednesday February 3rd and runs through April 22nd.

Every Week:

  • WEDNESDAY – 3:30-5:00 pm for 5-8 year olds
  • FRIDAY – 10:30-11:30 pm for 3-4 year olds
  • Big Event - Saturday - In April

12 Week Program Including:

  1. Anatomy / The Body
  2. Nutrition / My Plate
  3. Physical Activity

Bio Program Director:

Ashley Meier is a senior at Virginia Tech and is majoring in Human Development with a Psychology minor. She is currently a member of the Virginia Tech Women’s Soccer Team and plans to go to graduate school for Occupational Therapy after graduating in May. Her passion for helping others sparked her interest in this career path, along with her leadership experience and values of hard work, accountability, reliability and integrity. She volunteers weekly for the Special Olympics and is a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society. She loves working with kids and recently started coaching for the NRU club team and has also coached at the Virginia Tech soccer camp and for her hometown for the past four years. Originally from Strongsville, Ohio, Ashley is a member of the U23 United States Women’s National Team, she is a three-time ACC All-Academic Team Honoree, a two-time ACC Honor Roll Honoree, a Virginia Tech Scholar Athlete, has been named to the Dean’s List every semester since she started college and a two-time All-American. With this program, she hopes to help children obtain a healthy and active lifestyle in a fun, hands-on way.
