Hawk's Cay Resort- A perfect destination for your next vacation

September 3, 2015

The Florida Keys are magnificent. If you’ve never been, I encourage you to add them to your travel bucket list. Driving through this series of islands and bridges is one of the most beautiful sights your eyes will experience, and the islands are home to various beaches, wildlife, water sports and activities.

About half way in sits the island of Duck Key, home to Hawk’s Cay Resort. I was fortunate to be a guest of this beautiful resort along with 33 other Macaroni Kid publishers, and I'd like to tell you about it.

Hawk’s Cay somehow makes it easy for guests to both keep busy and spend days doing nothing. It’s a resort ideal for families with children of all ages, as well as couples looking for a romantic getaway or a girl’s weekend like we enjoyed. The grounds are lush and tropical and feature a saltwater lagoon along with 5 pools. The resort is spotless, with large modern rooms that include a fridge and small balcony, and over sized bathrooms stocked with fluffy towels and robes.

Feeling active? Try paddle-boarding, parasailing, biking, kayaking or rent a  jet ski. The Activities Coordinator can even arrange an expedition to scuba, snuba, or snorkel.  A group  of us enjoyed a 3 hour snorkel trip on a protected coral reef, and saw hundreds of tropical fish, an octopus, and even a small nurse shark! Most activities are on or a 5 minute walk or short shuttle ride from the resort, and just up the road is a cable park for water skiing and kite board lessons.  There is no shortage of adrenaline to be found!

If lounging is more your thing, you will not be disappointed! Relax in one of the many chairs found around pools or lagoon, or book yourself a session at the full service Calm Waters Spa

One very special feature of Hawk’s Cay Resort is the Dolphin Connection.  Here you can become a Trainer For a Day, or participate in a dockside or in-water Dolphin Discovery program. You can also watch the dolphin feedings six times each day.

Camp Hawk offers a child care option daily for children 5-12, plus weekly Kid's Night Out and Teen Hang Outs.   Younger kids will enjoy a pirate themed splash park, kid friendly meals from the Coral Grill and activities, while the older kids will enjoy basketball, video games, foosball and music. This allows parents some alone time to enjoy all the resort offers, including time at the Tranquility Pool for adults 21+.  Fees apply for Camp Hawk and youth programs.

Dining options range from salads and pizza delivered to you poolside or in your room, to an exquisite meal at Alma, offering refined Latin-inspired seafood and more. Most of my meals were enjoyed in a more causal restaurant called Ocean, which offers a wonderful breakfast buffet including omelet and waffle bars and a la carte dinners. The Beach Grill serves classic grill food and an impressive lineup of frozen cocktails, and those who enjoy cocktails will want to purchase a cocktail shaker for reduced priced refills the length of your stay. The Key Lime margarita was my favorite! Meals are not included in report fees, so you'll want to plan accordingly.  Families might consider renting one of the town homes or villas which come with a kitchen.  While we were there, I met several people who were eating that day's catch which the boat captains would filet for them on the docks.

I could not help but think the Hawk's Cay Resort would be a beautiful setting for a destination wedding. The gazebo and lawn is perfect for photos and the best place on the resort to watch the sunset.

Hawk's Cay provided a lovely setting for bunch of busy moms to unwind for a weekend, and for many of us try something new. As you plan your travels, I hope you will keep The Hawk's Cay Resort in mind, and you can learn more about it here. Military families, fire & rescue, law enforcement and teachers will want to ask about special discounts and packages throughout the year.

I was a guest of the Hawk's Cay Resort for the purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.
