Welcome to NRV Macaroni Kid

Your Source of Local Family Fun!

Howdy neighbors! Like you, we have been super busy as the children's activities and school wrap up. We fit in some fun, and I was pleased to be a guest of the MOPS group that meets evenings in Blacksburg. It's wonderful to see the support the moms provide one another, and they have so much fun! One group is planning pedicures at Polished by Clare V and another is making summer playground schedules. Learn more about MOPS here.

We celebrated The Boy's 10th birthday with a party at the Salem Red Sox. The Sox were dressed in pink for PINK OUT weekend for breast cancer, and the rain held off long enough for the kids to have a good time. Between playing in the bouncy houses, the rain, and the fact these are 10 year old boys it was like driving home a carload of skunks! Parents of sweet baby boys be warned; it will happen to your boy too! The Red Sox could use our support and spectators! The Kids Club is a great deal for families if you can commit to attending a handful of games this season and supporting the team. If you have a boy or girl scout, also consider the overnight scout camp outs-my brownie & I had a great time last year at this annual event.

The Salem Red Sox are a sponsor of  NRV Macaroni Kid, and you can find them in our Biz Directory.  Sponsors help Macaroni Kid provide this service to you at no cost. So, show 'em some Macaroni love and tell them you saw them here. Thanks and see you around the valley. Go inside Macaroni Kid here for the full scoop this week including:

Getting Ready for Spring/Summer Outdoor Fun

It's been a long winter for some of us in northern climates, but it looks like it's finally spring and time to get ready for outdoor activities.

Sunday Crepes

by Beth Granger

I don't know how it started but my tradition is to make crepes on Sunday. The recipe below is very forgiving-- you can leave stuff out or change ingredients, and it still works.

Ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 cups whole milk (I rarely have whole milk and have used almond milk, skim milk, and combinations of whatever is in the house)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar (I've used Stevia, only used 2 Tablespoons, again...forgiving)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Scant 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ...
